Blockchain in India: The Technology Behind the Next Digital Revolution

Blockchain is much bigger than Bitcoin.

The Government of India has recognised Blockchain Technology as a potential tool for building secure, transparent and efficient digital services. MeitY’s National Strategy on Blockchain identifies applications including digital certificates, healthcare, land/property records, supply chains, identity management, agriculture and e-governance.

Think of Blockchain simply as:

“A shared digital record that is difficult to alter and can be trusted by multiple parties.”

India is already exploring blockchain-based use cases. For example, a government-approved use case in Tamil Nadu involves securing citizens’ certificates fetched from DigiLocker using blockchain technology.

The bigger question is not “Will blockchain replace everything?”
